Official VMWorld starts today and here’s VMware next announcement VMware View to be introduced in 2009.

VMware view is made up of VMware View Composer, VMware Offline Desktop and Client Virtualization which all are directly related to VDI.

VMware has announced a new data center operating system concept, VDC OS, that will leverage new features in future versions of VMware’s infrastructure products to deliver dynamic resource pools of applications and infrastructure known as a vCloud.

There’s been rumors that VI 4.0 will be announced at vmworld 2008 in Las Vegas.

Some of the features you may see are Linked Clone, VMware CA (Continuous Availability), VCB 4.0 with Incremental & Differential, Chargeback, Improved Life Cycle Manager, ISO Manager, VMSafe, Virtual Center Clustering,  Unified Network Management and more…

Some of these features were already demoed previously in vmworld 2007.

By default SSH is not enabled in ESXi. Follow the steps below to enable it

  1. At the ESXi console, press alt+F1
  2. Type: unsupported
  3. Enter the root password
  4. At the prompt type “vi /etc/inetd.conf
  5. Look for the line that starts with “#ssh”
  6. Remove the “#” (press the “x” if the cursor is on the character)
  7. Save “/etc/inetd.conf” by typing “:wq!” or “ZZ
  8. Restart the management service “/sbin/services.sh restart” or reboot the host

This works with ESX3i & ESX4i.

Unable to power on virtual machines. VI Client displays the error:
A General System error occurred: Internal error.
