XenDesktop is a desktop delivery solution that allows companies to virtualise Windows desktops in the data center and deliver them on-demand to office workers in any location.
XenDestop solution consists of the following components:
- XenServer (can be used with VMware ESX or Hyper-V)
- Provisioning Server
- Desktop Delivery Controller
- XenApp
- Citrix Access Gateway
- WANScaler
- EdgeSight
- GoToAssist
- EasyCall
One of the main advantage XenDesktop provides is the ability to use single vdisk (OS Image) for multiple desktops. If you are looking at deploying VMware or Leostream or SUN VDI for 100 users, average size of each desktop would be 10gb this will add up to 1000gb. With Citrix’s VDI solution (XenDesktop Platinum), one vdisk of 10gb could be used for almost all users.
Its flexibility to leverage using your existing VMware ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V Virtual Infrastructure is another huge advantage. The Citrix Desktop Delivery Controller can control VMs hosted on either platform as well as Citrix’s own XenServer.
Citrix XenDesktop vs VMware VDM

I’ve tested XenDesktop in our lab with VMware ESX backend. Feel free to post questions.

Hi,
I’ve been told that LeoStream connection broker does not support XenDesktop, is this true? I find it hard to believe that this is the case but I need someone to confirm for me and even better if this has been tested.
Thank you for your help.
Anil.
If you use the XenDesktop broker with an ESX backend, what are the protocol options? Does it mean we can deploy any of ICA, RDP, PCoIP? Or is it constrained to ICA, or constrained to RDP?
Don’t think leostream support xendesktop.
why do you want to use citrix xendesktop with leostream ? Leostream is another vdi product just like xendesktop.
If you use XenDesktop, it is constrained to ICA protocol only.
Where as with the new VMware View 4, you can choose between RDP and PCoIP.
